One-stop shop for veterans’: 50 Mile March works to build physical community
Jay Miralles, a 10-year Air Force veteran, is leading a new veteran community service project in Bellevue to help veterans transition back to civilian life. “I know what it’s like to sleep on my buddy’s couches and be kicked out to the next buddy’s couch to sleep in my car,” Miralles said. Miralles emphasizes the need for structure and a system that restores self-worth and dignity for soldiers leaving active duty. “But sometimes when you lose a routine and you lose a community, it’s hard to find yourself,” he said.
Through the 50 Mile March initiative, Miralles believes he has built a supportive community. The organization is purchasing over seven acres of land in Bellevue to establish a veteran community service center.
